We went out for the 3 hr tour to the sand bar and was a little apprehensive on how it would work with 2.5 yr old. Is this trip good for kids and non‑swimmers?
Yes. The Islamorada sandbar is one of the best spots in the Keys for kids and non‑swimmers. The water is usually waist‑deep and calm, and we have noodles/floatation available. I stay right there with you, keep an eye on conditions, and make sure everyone feels safe and comfortable getting in and out of the boat.
How shallow is the water at the sandbar?
Most of the sandbar is around waist‑deep on an average adult, with some slightly deeper and shallower spots depending on tides and exact location. I always anchor in a calm, comfortable depth for your group so kids and less confident swimmers can still enjoy the water.
What can we bring on board?
Bring your favorite drinks, snacks, lunch, towels, sunscreen, hats, and a change of clothes if you’d like. Small coolers are welcome. I provide the boat, safety gear, music, and a great spot at the sandbar – you bring whatever you want to eat, drink, and celebrate with. If you’re not sure about something specific, just ask.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Your safety and comfort come first. If conditions are unsafe or clearly not enjoyable (strong storms, high winds, lightning), we’ll reschedule your trip or refund your deposit. I watch the weather closely before every charter and will contact you if I see an issue so we can make a plan together.
Are there bathrooms available?
There are no bathrooms on the sandbar itself. We recommend using the restroom before departure. On longer trips we can plan a quick stop at a nearby marina/restaurant if needed. If bathroom access is a big concern for your group, tell me when you book and I’ll help you choose the best timing and trip length.
